government of Slovakia has announced that it has already started monitoring the internet for illegal gambling sites – and it plans to release a list of banned sites on 17 July.Once this list is published, the country’s Financial Administrator has revealed that it intends to give weekly updates on the progress of their crackdown on illegal online gambling.The move has been made possible by recently adopted legislation.As cited by the Tsar Newswire, Finance Secretary Radko Kuru, commenting on the government crackdown on online gambling, said: “The global gambling market has developed dynamically in recent years.“Legislation has reacted to an expansion of gambling in virtual space and has brought new challenges in terms of supervision.”Last year Slovakia amended its gambling regulations to require sports betting sites to acquire local licenses and pay 27% tax on gross gaming revenue. At the same time, the government preserved the state-owned online casino and poker monopoly of the TIPOS national lottery operator.
