Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) has elected Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) CEO Tan Hee Teck as the federation’s president.
According to Singapore’s news agencies, the decision was made by the council members in a by-election. The federation was confident in Tan’s leadership in advancing tripartism efforts and enhancing labour market flexibility to nurture sustainable businesses in Singapore. Tripartism efforts referred to the “three-way partnership between the Government, employers and labour movement.”
“The independent review is expected to be completed in the coming weeks and more updates will be provided accordingly,” SNEF said in its statement.
The Ministry of Manpower and National Trades Union Congress further affirmed the SNEF’s statement with its own statement in support of the SNEF.
Tan has been in the SNEF for 15 years, and had previously served as its VP from September 2022.
The council has also elected Kuah Boon Wee, director of engineering firm MTQ Corp, as VP, in addition to two serving-VPs: Alexander Melchers, managing director of trading firm C. Melchers GmbH & Co in Singapore; and John Ng Peng Wah, YTL PowerSeraya chief executive.
RWS, owned by Singapore Genting, contributed to Singapore Genting’s substantial year-on-year growth of 62% during its Q1 in May 2024. Genting Singapore also expressed its interest in the UAE and Thailand during Genting Singapore’s Annual General Meeting.
