Andy Roddick makes Wimbledon history… in North Dakota

Andy Roddick, the three-time Wimbledon finalist and former World No. 1, has finally tasted Wimbledon glory. However, it wasn’t on the storied Centre Court of SW19 but on the single court of Wimbledon, North Dakota.

This unusual turn of events saw Roddick, now Betway’s Global Tennis Ambassador, claim victory 4,085 miles away from London.

Despite a career boasting 32 titles and a US Open win, Roddick never clinched the coveted Wimbledon trophy.

Recognising this gap in his resume, Betway launched a campaign to set up a tournament in the small town of Wimbledon, North Dakota.

With a population of just 144, this rural community provided the backdrop for Roddick’s quest for a Wimbledon title.

In the specially organised event, Roddick built the Centre Court, recruited opponents from the local community and explained the tournament rules to them before competing against them in a tennis showdown.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Roddick sailed through all seven matches to be crowned ‘Wimbledon Champion (North Dakota).’

Commenting on the event, Chad Yeomans, Betway spokesperson, stated: “Despite a decorated career in tennis, Andy never quite got his hands on the Wimbledon trophy, even though he reached the final three times.

“That’s why we contacted the incredible town of Wimbledon, North Dakota to design a tournament that could possibly help Andy achieve tennis glory. We are really thankful to Andy and all involved in bringing this fun idea to fruition.”

Andy Roddick himself added: “Wimbledon has always been a special tournament to me and one I’ve dreamed of winning. I am absolutely honoured to be able to finally call myself a Wimbledon (North Dakota) Champion… And to the people of Wimbledon who helped make it happen, this one is for you.”
